Swedish Vampire Movie
Just watched this movie last night . . . I'm very sad I didn't see it in the theater. It's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. It's not just a vampire movie. Really brilliant.
wow. I have heard this one is really stunning, and it looks like it is, but I have SUCH a low threshold for depictions of violence. This is a side-effect of my past work in DV shelters and rape-crisis centers: My lifetime quota of absorbing stories of violence has really been met. So I am generally not allowed to see violent movies (says me). Not unless I want to be a little paranoid and have an exaggerated startle response for about three days. Is the violence really overt, or implied? Is it worth going and hiding behind my hands for most of the time?
Laura-I understand your feelings about violence on screen. I would say that most of the violence in this one is implied, but there is some overt stuff. There are a few scenes with blood on the mouth, and lots of sounds of vampire sucking. Anyway--if you are sensitive to violence it may not be worth it.
It was really beautifully filmed, very moody, and more of an emotional character drama than a horror film. That said--I have a very good friend who feels much the way you do--I wouldn't ask her to see it. Anyway--hope this helps! Thanks for checking in on my blog--Beth
